La muestra Formas Referentes presenta artistas que en la segunda mitad del siglo XX aportaron una nueva dimensión a la abstracción colombiana. Artistas que, con una continuidad sorprendente, abren ideas y corrientes que hoy se reflejan en el arte contemporáneo colombiano y latinoamericano. Ideas en donde prima el concepto y la simplificación, caracterizadas por el rigor de su construcción.
La mayoría demuestra admiración por el arte de las culturas precolombinas, logrando que las obras surjan así por un afecto incontenible ante su país. Se exhiben escultores y pintores para quienes el campo artístico parte de la cultura colombiana, entendiendo el arte como una asimilación de los momentos políticos y culturales del país.
Aún así la necesidad de llevar al arte colombiano a trascender las fronteras lleva a estos artistas a generar un lenguaje donde lo que prima es la importancia de los elementos formales, del material como forma de expresión de los contenidos locales.

The show Referent Forms presents artists who in the second half of the 20th century brought a new dimension to Colombian abstraction. Artists who, with surprising continuity, open ideas and currents that today are reflected in contemporary Colombian and Latin American art. Ideas where the concept and simplification excel, characterized by the rigor of its construction.
Most show admiration for the art of pre-Columbian cultures, achieving the works to arise by an uncontainable affection for their country. Sculptors and painters are exhibited for whom the artistic field is part of Colombian culture, understanding art as an assimilation of the political and cultural moments of the country.
Even so, the need to take Colombian art to transcend borders leads these artists to generate a language where what is important are the formal elements of the material as a form of expression of local contents.
